Keizer School 1896, originally a one-room school, was located in what is now Keizer Schoolhouse Square. It was replaced in 1916 by a larger school building (which was behind the newer additions) and is now the Keizer Cultural Center – where the Keizer Heritage Museum and other community supporters are located.

In 1986 the “Preserve Keizer Committee” was formed to save the old 1916 Keizer School building. In 1988 the Keizer Heritage Foundation was formed. The building was moved east on Chemawa Road to its current location. As the renovation progressed items were found in the old edifice. By December 1, 1999, a museum was established to house memorabilia of the historic school and other items from the community.
